The Disability Athletics Faire

It is with great regret that we have decided to reschedule the 2020 Disability Athletics Faire due to concerns of spreading the COVID 19 virus. One of the directives of the CDC and LA County Public Health is for “Social Distancing”.  We do not feel with this type event we can achieve their directive. This decision to reschedule the 2020 Disability Athletics Faire was not taken lightly. After thoughtful review and consideration, we are most concerned for the health and welfare of all attendees at the event.

During its five-year history, the Disability Athletics Faire has always been committed to the health and well-being of persons with disabilities, their families, volunteers, vendors and Mt San Antonio College staff and students.

We understand our coaches, exhibitors, sponsors and collaborating organizations have been planning to attend and engage with attendees since last April. The contributions of everyone who attends this annual event is what ignites enthusiasm for physical activities and healthy lifestyles. This Disability Athletics Faire is everyone’s annual collective experience. We are all disappointed!

The DAF team met and we have rescheduled the Faire for October 17, 2020. More details will be posted on the DAF, SCIL and Mt SAC websites.

Thank you for being part of the Disability Athletics Faire.

Larry Grable

DAF Chair/ Executive Director SCIL

Grace Hansen

Director of Access Services

The Disability Athletics Faire is not competition based; we simply want to bring awareness to adaptive sports and provide a safe space for people of all ages and disabilities to have a great time.

Service Center for Independent Life (SCIL) is the Claremont based nonprofit that hosts the faire. SCIL provides free services to people with disabilities and seniors in the Pomona and San Gabriel Valleys. Our goal is to increase independence and inclusion for all. Our annual faire encourages people with disabilities to venture outside their comfort zones and experience all that they can be. Each activity at our faire is adapted to accommodate all disabilities.

Attendees are able to attend our annual faire at no charge and this will never change. This was important to us as we know first-hand how often income is limited for families with people with disabilities.

Each attendee will receive a complimentary t-shirt and meal ticket; all free!
We will also have a resource faire at our event, tabled by various nonprofit organizations and other disability related companies. Please take the time to check them out, you could gain a lot of useful resources!

Activities at the event include but are not limited to, basketball, soccer, rock wall climbing, martial arts, baseball, bocce ball, golf, football, skateboarding and more!

Jermey Schmidt

Jermey Schmidt came up with the idea for us to do a sports festival for people with disabilities. He had recently attended a sports festival in San Bernardino County and thought it would be a great idea to bring the festival to Los Angeles County.  He is a volunteer at our center, Service Center for Independent Life (SCIL), and has been actively involved for many years.
